State Report and Project 3rd-5th 2pm

Students will learn how to research and write a 5 paragraph essay on their chosen state, as well as choose a final project. Class will have an outline of what to research, as well as a rubric to follow and be graded on. Students will learn not just the basic facts regarding their state but also research geographic regions, indigenous people, climate and weather, historical turning points, major industries, demographics, and more. This will require some at home research and students will work on their projects during class time.

Using the My Father’s World workbook: “In Writing a State Report, students will identify their state on a map, provide historical information, and identify physical and political features. They will draw the state flag, seal, bird, flower, and license plate. They can include a song or poem about the state, and information about weather, resources, national parks, historical sites, or other sites of interest. They will include information about government, education, and the people who live in the state. They can create a visitor’s guide and give their opinions about what they have learned. They will conclude their reports with a bibliography of their sources.” Students will write a letter to the state of their choosing to receive information from the source, they will also use the library and internet for their project. They will be graded on a rubric and their completed workbook, there will be some work that needs to be done at home.
